DESCRIPTION:PROGRAM DETAILS\nThe Mysteries of Chimney Rock Tour is offered on Monday and Friday mornings from 8:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.\, and on Wednesday evenings from 5:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. This engaging two-hour tour will spotlight several topics aimed specifically at interpreting the history and significance of Chimney Rock and the ancestral Puebloans who inhabited the area over 1\,000 years ago. The tour delves into the connection of Chimney Rock to the greater Chaco Culture\, the significance of the mesa top Great House Pueblo\, and the day-to-day lives of the inhabitants of Chimney Rock. \nThe tour takes visitors along both the Mesa Village Trail and the Great House Trail to learn specifics about the structures along the way – their significance and uses. At the end of the trail\, visitors will enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view from atop the mesa ridge. They will also be afforded the closest view possible of the two pinnacles: Chimney Rock and Companion Rock. Peregrine falcons are often sighted on the left side of Companion Rock\, so cameras are a must! Of special note\, the tour will be conducted in the quiet off-hours of the Monument. The hike up to the Chacoan Great House Pueblo may be difficult for some due to the steep gradient\, uneven footing\, and elevation ending at 7600 feet. The elevation gain is 200 feet. Participants should be in reasonable physical condition and willing to hike mostly uphill for 1/3 mile (and return steeply downhill). \nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO \nCheck-in is at the Highway 151 entrance gate at the time stated below for each tour. Not recommended for young children. \nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO\nParticipants will be walking slowly on uneven terrain in the lower area of Chimney Rock; thus\, no archaeological sites will be included on this tour. SUMMARY:Life at Chimney Rock Festival
DESCRIPTION:FESTIVAL DETAILS \nChimney Rock Interpretive Association invites you to our yearly Life at Chimney Rock Festival held at Chimney Rock National Monument on Saturday and Sunday\, June 1st and 2nd\, from 10:00am to 4:00 pm each day. This year the Forest Service has announced that the entire event will be a Fee Free festival.  Family activities and interactive demonstrations of the skills of the Ancients will be led by CRIA volunteers and will include pounding yucca\, making coil pottery\, creating rock art\, weaving\, corn grinding\, and throwing a spear with an atlatl. Visitors can learn about astronomy and dendrochronology\, try tasting a sample of Anasazi beans and get a close-up view of a peregrine falcon. Food vendors will have a variety of lunch items and drinks for sale including fry bread and frito pie. \nArtists at this year’s Native American Market will be selling pottery\, jewelry\, paintings\, wood carvings\, andother art. Vendors are from the Pueblos of Acoma\, Laguna\, Santo Domingo\, and Santa Clara as well as the Navajo\, Jicarilla Apache\, and Southern Ute Nations. Some will be demonstrating their crafts\, and all are willing to share their knowledge and skills with visitors. Dance groups will be performing twice daily in the amphitheater. \nTwo Native American dance groups\, the Oak Canyon Dancers from Jemez Pueblo and  the Roach Family Dancers\, will be performing at this years’ Festival in the amphitheater.  The Oak Canyon Dancers will perform at 2PM on Saturday and 11 PM on Sunday.   The Roach Family Dancers will perform at 2 PM on Sunday. \nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO\nBecause the Forest Service has waived the daily activity fee on June 1st and 2nd in honor of Life at Chimney Rock\, the entrance to the festival is Free! Visitors to the Monument will have access to the festival and all the regular amenities at the site. These include self-guided tours of the cultural sites\, access to the nature trail\, and Visitor Plaza. The Monument is open from 9 am to 4:30 pm.

At the end of the trail\, visitors will enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view from atop the mesa ridge. DESCRIPTION:PROGRAM DETAILS\nThe Mysteries of Chimney Rock Tour is offered on Monday and Friday mornings from 8:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.\, and on Wednesday evenings from 5:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. This engaging two-hour tour will spotlight several topics aimed specifically at interpreting the history and significance of Chimney Rock and the ancestral Puebloans who inhabited the area over 1\,000 years ago. The tour delves into the connection of Chimney Rock to the greater Chaco Culture\, the significance of the mesa top Great House Pueblo\, and the day-to-day lives of the inhabitants of Chimney Rock. \nThe tour takes visitors along both the Mesa Village Trail and the Great House Trail to learn specifics about the structures along the way – their significance and uses. At the end of the trail\, visitors will enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view from atop the mesa ridge. They will also be afforded the closest view possible of the two pinnacles: Chimney Rock and Companion Rock. Peregrine falcons are often sighted on the left side of Companion Rock\, so cameras are a must! Of special note\, the tour will be conducted in the quiet off-hours of the Monument. The hike up to the Chacoan Great House Pueblo may be difficult for some due to the steep gradient\, uneven footing\, and elevation ending at 7600 feet. The elevation gain is 200 feet. Participants should be in reasonable physical condition and willing to hike mostly uphill for 1/3 mile (and return steeply downhill). \nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO \nCheck-in is at the Highway 151 entrance gate at the time stated below for each tour. Please adhere to the check-in timeline. The gate will be promptly locked at the end of that time. Reservations will be cut off 12 hours prior to the start of the tour. DESCRIPTION:PROGRAM DETAILS\nTHIS TOUR IS OFFERED ON TUESDAY\, THURSDAY AND SATURDAY ONLY \nThis guided tour takes visitors 1/3 mile up the Great Pueblo Trail\, making several stops along the way to learn about the ancient Puebloan structures built over 1\,000 years ago and their connection to the Chaco culture located 90 miles southwest of this spot. At the end of the trail\, visitors will enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view from atop the mesa ridge. They will also be afforded the closest view possible of the two pinnacles: Chimney Rock and Companion Rock. Peregrine falcons are often sighted on the left side of Companion Rock\, so cameras are a must! \nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO\nThe hike up to the Chacoan Great House Pueblo may be difficult for some due to the steep gradient\, uneven footing\, and elevation ending at 7600 feet.  The elevation gain is 200 feet. Recreation.gov charges a $1.00 reservation fee that is non-refundable. To ensure this tour is scheduled\, reservations are strongly recommended. Reservations will be cut off 12 hours prior to the start of the tour. Most tours are at full capacity prior to the event\, but walk-ins will be accommodated if space is available. SUMMARY:Flute Music at Twilight Under the Pinnacles
DESCRIPTION:PROGRAMS DETAILS \nThis program is offered on select Saturday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. during quiet off-hours of the Monument. It begins from the amphitheater with a relaxing 1/4-mile walk up the nature trail\, providing visitors with an experience of the natural environment along with beautiful views of the two pinnacles. Upon returning to the amphitheater\, the program resumes with an informative lecture on topics specific to Chimney Rock such as the Ancestral Puebloan culture\, archeoastronomy theories\, the Major Lunar Standstill\, geology\, etc. \nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO \nAs dusk progresses and stars begin to appear\, you will be treated to the haunting melodies of a native American flute played by our own Charles Martinez. Visitors will gaze in wonder at the heavenly skies and ponder what significance they had for the Ancestral Puebloans when they looked up at the same night skies 1\,000 years ago.
