Cabin host volunteering involves meeting and greeting the public and providing tour information, etc. Training will be provided in the archaeological material covered by the Volunteer Handbook, interpretation techniques, cultural resource protection law, radio and safety requirements, as well as in the use of the cash register. First Aid and CPR training are recommended. Good people skills are required.

Primary duties and responsibilities:
  • Greet and welcome visitors as directed in "Procedures for Visitors"; answer questions, sell tour and special event tickets
  • Describe tours, special events, and Full Moon programs. Direct visitors wanting information about Major Lunar Standstill events to the office
  • Operate cash register and credit card machine
  • Assist day manager as needed
  • Open Cabin; stock merchandise, answer telephone calls and radios
  • Learn Policy and Procedure Manuals; be prepared for emergencies
  • Assist Day Manager with emergency situations such as fire or medical concerns
  • Become knowledgeable about Chimney Rock's resources and surrounding area; share information with visitors
  • Acquaint visitors with archaeological exhibits at the Cabin
  • Light cleaning of the Cabin; sweeping of the walkway
  • Work well with the public and co-workers under all circumstances including stressful situations
Physical requirements:
  • Heat and sunlight tolerance
  • Ability to sit or stand for moderate periods of time
  • Ability to do light lifting and some bending
  • Adequate hearing and vision

Guided Walking Tour Schedule: 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m.
