CHIMNEY ROCK
-- 2007 VOLUNTEERING SUMMARY --
bar2

Tour Group Thanks to the Chimney Rock volunteers, 2007 was a most successful season! 125 volunteers collectively donated more than 10,000 hours guiding tours and assisting at an ever-expanding schedule of programs...all the while keeping the area maintained in a manner that befits our first neighborhood. In the process of contributing these hours, the volunteers also drove more than 50,000 miles. The direct beneficiary of the volunteers' efforts were the over 8,000 guests ferried back in time during the 2007 season. While most visitors came from Colorado and Texas, all states were represented with the exception of Rhode Island. Many visitors came from 21 countries around the world including Peru, Japan, Germany and England.

Here's how the nearly 10,000 hours of volunteer time was distributed to make all phases of the Chimney Rock Interpretive Program run smoothly:
  • Cabin hosts worked 2,027 hours.
  • Administration (folks who worked in the office and elsewhere) accrued 1,873 hours.
  • Tour Guides contributed 1,826 hours.
  • Special events required 917 hours of volunteer time.
  • Full moon program volunteers donated 873 hours.
  • Training for new and experienced volunteers took 612 hours.
  • Volunteers added continuing education time totaling 453 hours.
  • The major lunar standstill program volunteers donated 385 hours.
  • Hard-working maintenance volunteers spent 384 hours on upkeep.
  • The Life at Chimney Rock program required 270 volunteer hours.
  • Chimney Rock volunteers who helped with Friends of Native Cultures Dances tallied 110 hours.

In 2007 as a side benefit to its dedicated volunteers, the Chimney Rock Interpretive Association received a laptop computer and two printers as part of IBM's "On Demand Community" worldwide network of IBM volunteers, grants and donations. IBM's "On Demand" volunteer community is committed to closing the gap between those who have access to information technology and those who do not.
